Wikipedia already named Billy Napier the new Florida coach so it must be true

Someone decided to update Billy Napier’s Wikipedia page to make him the next head coach of the Florida football program.

After firing former head coach Dan Mullen, the Florida football team is in dire need of a new program builder, someone along the lines of Billy Napier of the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns.

Napier has SEC coaching roots from his time on Nick Saban’s Alabama staff. Though the Ragin’ Cajuns are at the Group of Five level, Napier has built one heck of a program in Lafayette. Louisiana is 10-1 on the season, making it three straight 10-win seasons in the always tricky Sun Belt. Given that Napier is a candidate for the Florida and LSU jobs, he could be heading to Gainesville.

Though someone might have jumped the gun prematurely on Wikipedia, those in the know firmly believe Napier will do a fantastic job if he did get the Florida gig.

Florida coaching rumors: Wikipedia has Billy Napier as the next head coach

While hiring Napier may not make Florida fans overcome with joy, he could be exactly what the struggling SEC East program needs. Florida needs a head coach who can not only build a program, but recruit the talent-rich state in which it plays. Factor in both Florida State and Miami being down, and it should not be that overly difficult for the right head coach to win big in Gainesville.

Will Napier leave Louisiana after four seasons on the job? Potentially. Given that the coaching pool is not as deep as one would expect, he could seriously end up with either the Florida or LSU job if the interviewing process goes over well. Though the SEC is a step up from the Sun Belt, Napier is the head coach ready for the challenge. He knows the treacherous waters he will be diving into.

It may not be official for a few weeks, but Napier may very well replace Mullen at Florida for 2022.
