Learn about UFC newcomer, Bruno Souza ahead of his featherweight debut at MSG.
UFC 268 will take place on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021, in New York City. The event will be held at Madison Square Garden and is the organization’s fifth visit to the iconic arena. Fans can expect an action-packed card that features two title fights, a title eliminator, and a number of fighters making their UFC debut.
One of those debutants is former LFA featherweight champion, Bruno Souza who steps in to replace TJ Laramie on just eight days’ notice.
Fans of LFA will be familiar with Souza who since joining the organization in 2019, built a solid foundation at featherweight with notable wins over ex-UFC fighter Kamuela Kirk and Bellator lightweight Mike Hamel in pursuit of clinching the vacant LFA featherweight title via unanimous decision at LFA 114.
Former LFA champion, Bruno Souza, has a background in karate
Souza was first introduced to combat sports through Karate, a move in which his abilities led him to become a 2015 world Karate champion. Shortly after, the protege of former UFC light-heavyweight champion, Lyoto Machida began his pro MMA career on the regional scene in Brazil for IMCF where he lost his debut by unanimous decision. This would be his sole loss in the sport as he progressed from the regional scene to making his North American debut for the MMA organization LFA. Now, 5 wins later and a short stint as the LFA featherweight champion, Souza now finds himself in the pursuit of success in the UFC, and on a path many of his countrymen have walked and succeeded on the biggest stage of them all.
Souza will be welcomed in his Octagon debut by the highly touted prospect, Melsik Baghdasaryan who makes only his second UFC appearance following a TKO win over Collin Anglin on his debut at UFC Vegas 33.
