Twitter react to Vadim Nemkov defeating Phil Davis again

Reactions to Vadim Nemkov successfully defending the Bellator light heavyweight title against Phil Davis at Bellator 257

Vadim Nemkov has earned at least another fight as a defending Bellator champion in the Bellator Light Heavyweight Grand Prix, making his first successful title defense in the main event of Bellator 257 against Phil Davis.

This was a rematch from Bellator 209 in November 2018, a fight that saw Nemkov come away with a split decision.

Since coming to Bellator from RIZIN, in addition to the win over Davis, Nemkov’s run in the promotion has seen him knockout Philipe Lins, TKO former light heavyweight champ Liam McGeary and submit former middleweight champ Rafael Carvalho. It all led up to facing Ryan Bader at Bellator 244 in August and delivering a second-round TKO to win the title.

Davis has won nine of the 11 fights he’s had in Bellator, with the only losses being the loss to Nemkov and losing the light heavyweight championship to Ryan Bader. Davis entered this fight on a three-fight win streak, defeating McGeary via jaw-injury TKO, finishing Karl Albrektsson and defeating Lyoto Machida on a split decision.

Despite Davis having a strong wrestling background, he scored no takedowns over the course of the 25 minutes, while Nemkov scored three. Similar to when they first met, Davis was slow in his offensive output, while Nemkov pushed the pace and controlled the fight for the first three rounds.

Davis slowly picked up his pace in the title rounds, but Nemkov was still able to hold his own and it wasn’t enough for the former champ. All three judges scored the bout 48-47 for Nemkov.

Nemkov now moves on in the Light Heavyweight Grand Prix and will defend the championship against either Anthony “Rumble” Johnson or Yoel Romero in the semifinals.

Bellator 257 took place on Friday, April 16, 2021, live from the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT. Follow along with FanSided for all your live news and highlights.
