It’s looking like the players on the Chicago White Sox will be the ones to decide whether or not Tony La Russa returns to the club next season.
Just like that, the 2021 campaign has officially come to an end for the Chicago White Sox. After winning the AL Central and recording an unforgettable regular season, Tony La Russa’s men were silenced by the mighty Houston Astros in the ALDS.
While it was a year to remember, there was also plenty of drama surrounding the club thanks to La Russa. Now, with the offseason here for the team, what’s their plan with the veteran skipper moving forward? According to Chicago insider Paul Sullivan, La Russa will be back in the dugout come next season, but only if the players decide they want him to keep leading the team.
It’s not a guarantee that Tony La Russa will be back with the White Sox in 2022
From the looks of Sullivan’s report, the front office is ready to put its trust into La Russa for next season. With that said, they want to make sure the players inside of the clubhouse are on the same page with them regarding the manager.
At this point, it feels like it’d be a bit of a surprise if La Russa didn’t return to Guaranteed Rate Field next spring, but you never know what might end up happening. This team is loaded with so much young talent, of course including Luis Robert and Eloy Jimenez, and the future is so bright.
Chicago could be in a position next season to not only win the division again, but potentially go on a deeper postseason run. For now, it’s not 100 percent locked in that La Russa will be the manager trying to make that happen.
