Skip Bayless Rips Patriots Over Spending | Sports Takes & News | TooAthletic.com
The New England Patriots dove head first into the free agency pool this month, wowing the NFL in their efforts to rebuild their dynasty. However, there’s one Fox Sports 1 personality named Skip Bayless who is unimpressed, and had a few choice words for the team’s owner Robert Kraft and the head coach Bill Belichick.
.@RealSkipBayless on the Patriots offseason spending spree:
"Tom Brady left the Patriots organization in shambles. They are flailing, they are desperate. When it comes to team building, this looks all time desperate to me." pic.twitter.com/ACGYBtXUI4

Speaking on his show Undisputed with Shannon Sharpe, the never shy and always blunt Skip Bayless chimed in on what the New England Patriots have done in free agency so far this month, beginning with a message for the owner:
“I have just one response to Mr. Kraft: Welcome to life without Tom Brady. I’m sorry, I don’t care how you want to spin this, Tom Brady left this organization in shambles. They are flailing. They are desperate … Tom Brady made Mr. Kraft look like the greatest owner in the history of sports, and there’s a lot of quality and a lot to respect in that man, no doubt about that. But he got a lot of credit for just standing in the background and being there when necessary and just staying out of the way.”
And when he turned his attention to the head coach, Skip Bayless said, “And Bill Belichick got a lot of credit for being a genius head coach — when I’ll give you ‘genius defensive coordinator,’ Or at least an all-time great one. But when it comes to team building, this looks all-time desperate to me. This looks like splash and cash the way nobody did in this whole free agency period.”
Skip Bayless cannot be more right!!!
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers proved that a quarterback can make all the difference on a team. Because Tom Brady, without a preseason game and probably an injured knee, took a team mixed with new players, and weaved it together in one year. The result was a Super Bowl title for a player who proved that it wasn’t the coaching in New England that created the dynasty, but the quarterback who won the Patriots six Lombardi Trophies, period.
Robert Kraft wasn’t making the calls for the quarter century with Bill Belichick around and didn’t play any role in what the team did earlier this month other than, as he put it, “in my 27 years as owner, I never had to come up with so much capital before.”
As for Belichick, the graphics during the season of how bad he has drafted offensive talent, especially wide receivers, was well documented … but somehow Tom Brady overcame it, made it work, and reached the Super Bowl half the time he played in New England. In short, all Skip Bayless pointed out is that it was the quarterback and not the owner or head coach who deserved all the credit for the Patriots’ success … and to that I am AMEN, because that’s the nail that the media has been scared to hammer and hit until last year when the proof was staring them in the face.
Too often the talking heads on television and radio become experts in pointing out the obvious to their viewers and listeners. In this case, Skip Bayless, in 150 seconds, summed up the entire 20-year New England dynasty as well as how and why it fell apart so quickly, the departure of Tom Brady exposing the weaknesses in the Patriots empire. It may not have been the deepest comments ever made by Skip Bayless, but it settles the question of who deserves the credit for all the success in New England recently … it also points out who needs to step up their game to bring back that success.
Were Kraft and Belichick desperate in free agency this month? We won’t know that until the final standings of the 2021 season are known, because both of them, from this point forward, will be judged by their success, with this season being the first in which they are behind Brady in rings.
