Durant joined the Nets alongside Kyrie Irving in the summer of 2019 after spending the previous three seasons with the Golden State Warriors. He missed the first season of his contract as he recovered from a ruptured Achilles suffered in the 2019 NBA Finals.

In his return in the 2020-21 season, they made it to Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals but lost to the eventual NBA champion Milwaukee Bucks. Then, this past season, Durant made it to the playoffs after missing some time with a knee injury, and the team was swept by the Boston Celtics in the opening round.

After Irving announced that he was exercising his $36.5 million player option for the 2022-23 season, reports indicated days later that Durant requested a trade.

As for where Durant ends up, it is currently unknown. Multiple reports indicate that Durant prefers to be traded to the Phoenix Suns and Miami Heat. Sharpe points out those reports, saying that these were the two top seeds in this past season’s NBA playoffs.

Another team linked to Durant is the Toronto Raptors.

Durant will continue to dominate the NBA conversations even after he is officially traded to his new team.
