Sergio Pettis has NSFW opinion about fighting without fans in the crowd

Sergio Pettis kept it real when describing what it’s been like to fight in an empty arena during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bellator bantamweight champion Sergio Pettis is one of the many fighters who have found success in MMA during the pandemic, including his upset win over Juan Archuleta at Bellator 258 to claim the title.

Just weeks later, Pettis has weighed in on what it’s been like to fight during these unprecedented times over the past year, and specifically the experience of fighting in a nearly-silent venue. He recently took to Twitter to present a hysterical opinion on what it’s been like from him personally.

“Fighting without a crowd is like having sex with someone who doesn’t moan,” Pettis tweeted. “It’s hard to tell how you are performing.”

His tweet comes not even 24 hours after Pettis was in attendance for his brother Anthony’s PFL bout to close out the 2021 PFL regular season. Pettis was in the corner for the fight as his brother fell to Raush Manfio by split-decision to eliminate him from playoff contention.

Sergio Pettis and others have had a wide variety of opinions when it comes to fighting with or without a crowd

Competing during the pandemic has been a unique experience that fighters from around the sport of MMA will more than likely remember for the rest of their lives. Some fighters have felt indifferent about preparing for a bout within a confined space, while others have had both positive and negative opinions about the whole ordeal.

UFC middleweight Edmen Shahbazyan, like Pettis, has missed fighting in front of the fans and the energy that comes from the roar of the crowd reacting to a big moment in the octagon.

Pettis won’t have to wait too much longer to return to a familiar sense of normalcy when competing in Bellator. The promotion has recently welcomed fans back to their events and the crowd is sure to be electric for his first title defense as the bantamweight champion.
