Projected college football rankings after Texas A&M, Clemson get upset

Texas A&M falls to Arkansas and Clemson’s season ends with an overtime loss to NC State.

Expect for the top 10 of the next AP Top 25 poll to look very different after Texas A&M’s neutral-site loss to Arkansas and Clemson being upset in overtime by NC State.

The Hogs have now beaten three teams from Texas this season (Texas, Rice, Texas A&M). Sam Pittman’s team will face his former employer in Athens next week in a massive early-season SEC game. As for Clemson, it has been beyond a frustrating first third of the regular season for the Tigers. With two losses before October, the Tigers’ season is 100 percent over at this point.

Here is what the top 10 of the next AP Top 25 poll could look like heading into next weekend.

Projected college football top 10 after Clemson, Texas A&M losses

  1. Alabama Crimson Tide
  2. Georgia Bulldogs
  3. Oregon Ducks
  4. Oklahoma Sooners
  5. Iowa Hawkeyes
  6. Penn State Nittany Lions
  7. Cincinnati Bearcats
  8. Ohio State Buckeyes
  9. Florida Gators
  10. Notre Dame Fighting Irish

The top six will stay the same with it being Alabama, Georgia, Oregon, Oklahoma, Iowa and Penn State in that order. Texas A&M falls out of the top 10 entirely. Cincinnati moves up to No. 7 and Ohio State improves to No. 8. Florida takes Clemson’s spot at No. 9 and Notre Dame cracks the top 10 after dismantling the Wisconsin Badgers in the signature game of the early-afternoon window.

Texas A&M will drop to somewhere in the No. 11 to No. 15 range. Clemson may still be ranked, but the Tigers will take a massive hit after their second loss of the season. As for teams pushing towards the top 10 entering Week 5, keep an eye on Ole Miss, BYU and Arkansas. The Rebels were idle, so they will not make it in this week. With Iowa State falling, maybe Arkansas has a shot, too?

Things are only going to be getting crazier the rest of the way in the 2021 college football season.
