Projected college basketball rankings after Kansas upset by TCU, Villanova tops Providence

Kansas went on the road to face a seemingly easy opponent in TCU but ended up getting upset. Projected college basketball rankings after the Jayhawks loss.

Despite having several top-10 teams in action on Tuesday night, there wasn’t expected to be much of a shake-up in the college basketball rankings. At most, there might be some shuffling with Villanova and Providence playing one another. While that did happen, though, the TCU Horned Frogs had other plans as the Kansas Jayhawks came to town.

Ranked No. 6 in the country after a weekend loss to Baylor — making them one of the many top-ranked teams to fall on a historic Saturday of upsets — the Jayhawks went on the road to Fort Worth to try and get back on track. Instead, the wheels came off even more.

Losing to Baylor, another highly-ranked team, is one thing. But Kansas went out and completely looked lost against a TCU team that they should beat 10 times out of 10, no matter if the game is at home or on the road.

Despite a late comeback attempt, Bill Self’s team came up short and now has lost back-to-back games. Will they fall out of the top 10 of the college basketball rankings? Time to check our projections.

College basketball rankings: Projections after Kansas upset by TCU, Villanova bests Providence

  1. Gonzaga Bulldogs
  2. Arizona Wildcats
  3. Baylor Bears
  4. Duke Blue Devils
  5. Auburn Tigers
  6. Kentucky Wildcats
  7. Purdue Boilermakers
  8. Wisconsin Badgers
  9. Villanova Wildcats
  10. Kansas Jayhawks

Kansas just barely avoids coming out of the top 10 as they drop to that last spot there. Still, it’s tough to think that their stock didn’t take a hit at a bad time.

The NCAA Tournament is looming just around the corner and, with victories being reeled off to end the regular season, the Jayhawks could’ve made a case for earning one of the No. 1 seeds in March Madness. Instead, they’re falling apart and losing games they shouldn’t at a bad time.

We’ll have to see what happens beyond that moving forward as the Big 12 Tournament now looms large for Rock Chalk.
