Projected college basketball rankings after Duke upset by Florida State

Duke went on the road to play Florida State on Tuesday and fell short in overtime. After the upset, how will the college basketball rankings get shuffled?

Over the years, Duke basketball has been given some troubles by Leonard Hamilton’s Florida State Seminoles, particularly when the Blue Devils have been on the road in Tallahassee. As such, all eyes were on Paolo Banchero and Coach K’s team as they made that exact trip on Tuesday night.

Throughout the game, the Duke offense was just off-kilter and seemingly couldn’t find their rhythm. It’s actually to the credit of the Blue Devils that they shot and overall played as poorly as they did for 40 minutes and were still able to take the Noles to overtime.

In the extra five-minute period, though, the Blue Devils allowed two key buckets late from Florida State and came up empty on their final possession to fall to the Seminoles, 79-78, dropping the team to 14-3 on the season.

With the loss to an unranked FSU team, we have to check in on the college basketball rankings and project how far Duke falls and what that means for the rest of the top 10.

Projected college basketball rankings after Duke gets upset by Florida State

  1. Gonzaga Bulldogs
  2. Auburn Tigers
  3. Arizona Wildcats
  4. Purdue Boilermakers
  5. Baylor Bears
  6. Kansas Jayhawks
  7. Wisconsin Badgers
  8. UCLA Bruins
  9. Houston Cougars
  10. Duke Blue Devils

There were some other near upsets throughout the country on Tuesday. Baylor had an early afternoon trip to West Virginia that got hairy for a minute, but the Bears ultimately survived on the road to avoid losing three straight.

Meanwhile, Kansas also went down to the wire with Oklahoma in Norman, but prevailed thanks to a late surge.

In the end, it was only Duke inside of the top 10 of the college basketball rankings that took a loss, to an unranked team, no less. That should drop them a few spots, though it’s hard to see them falling all the way outside of the top 10.
