Ohio State vs. Notre Dame ticket prices are as absurd as you’d expect

Good luck on getting a ticket to Ohio State’s home opener vs. Notre Dame on Sept. 3.

As expected, the ticket prices to Notre Dame at Ohio State on Sept. 3 are absolutely absurd.

In this highly anticipated non-conference matchup for the Buckeyes, it will cost more than an arm and a leg to get in. As of Thursday, Seatgeek had tickets ranging for $256 in the nosebleeds of The Horseshoe to $4,443 a pop to sit at club level seats at the 50-yard line. Stubhub‘s pricing range was from $301 to $4,800 for the same seats. Ticketmaster was going from $300 to $4,499.

The amount of money people are willing to pay to see Marcus Freeman begin his Notre Dame coaching career in an 0-2 hole is absolutely mind-boggling.

Why pay triple rent when you can watch Notre Dame at Ohio State in person?

In all fairness, this is a really tough spot for the Golden Domers. Freeman inherits a great program from Brian Kelly, but opening the season on the road at Ohio State is an impossible task for just about anyone. The Buckeyes should win the Big Ten this season and are arguably the most formidable challenger in the Power Five to Alabama that is outside of the southeastern footprint.

Even though the time has not been set for this marquee game, people are more than willing to blow thrice their monthly rent to see this contest in person. This might be the two best programs currently north of the Mason-Dixon Line, but spending more than $300 to sit in the worst seat imaginable does not seem like money well spent. Then again, something amazing could happen.

No matter who wins or loses, the loser will have to question their rationale to spend this amount of cash on a regular season affair. If this were a College Football Playoff game, that would be one thing. However, there is always a chance one of these two teams could have a year from hell. It is not likely, but how dumb would you look to blow $5,000 to see what may be an eight-win team?

This is the latest example of college football fans paying anything just to watch their team play.
