MMA pros react to Anthony Johnson's KO win at Bellator 258

Anthony Johnson had the MMA community going crazy after his come-from-behind knockout win over Jose Augusto at Bellator 258.

In a fight that he was losing after the opening round, Anthony “Rumble” Johnson rallied at Bellator 258 to knockout Jose Augusto in Round 2.

The former UFC light heavyweight title challenger made his return to MMA after four years away from the competition. Johnson retired after losing at UFC 210 to then light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier in a title rematch. Johnson left the UFC with five sub-minute knockout victories during his time with the promotion.

Despite the long layoff from the octagon, Johnson appeared in great shape against a short-notice replacement in Augusto. Johnson is known around the MMA community for his show-stopping knockouts during his time in the UFC, and his fighting colleagues expressed their excitement after his debut win.

Here’s how MMA pros from around the world reacted to Anthony Johnson’s Bellator debut on Twitter

After securing the knockout win over Jose Augusto, Anthony Johnson has found himself with yet another championship opportunity

Johnson was originally scheduled to face former UFC middleweight Yoel Romero at Bellator 258, but Romero had to pull out due to failing a pre-fight medical screening. With the win over Augusto, Johnson will now battle defending Bellator light heavyweight champion Vadim Nemkov in the semifinals of the light heavyweight grand prix.

In the other semifinals match, Ryan Bader will take on Corey Anderson in a battle of former UFC light heavyweight standouts.

The 37-year-old Johnson is one of the most beloved athletes in UFC history, because of his aggressive fighting style mixed with his oft-friendly personality.  Fans around MMA were disappointed when Johnson announced his retirement in 2017, but those same fans will have the opportunity to see him compete for a championship yet again.

Bellator 258 takes place on Friday, May 7, 2021, live from the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT. Follow along with FanSided for all your live news and highlights.
