MLB put their foot down on Chicago White Sox relief pitcher Mike Wright for throwing at Los Angeles Angels star Shohei Ohtani.
Throw at the potential AL MVP three straight times, expect a suspension. It’s not that tough to comprehend.
Ohtani is likely to edge out Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. for AL MVP honors, but he faced a serious threat from Wright just a few days ago, as he had three straight pitches thrown at his feet. Wright and Tony La Russa claimed it wasn’t intentional.
Wright was ejected, and so was La Russa shortly thereafter for arguing. Whether the pitches were on purpose or not, throwing Wright out to protect a player of Ohtani’s status isn’t necessarily surprising.
