Man Bailed Out By VP Harris-Backed Minnesota Freedom Fund Charged With Murder

One of the people bailed out of jail by an organization supported by Vice President Kamala Harris has reportedly been charged with murder.

The Minnesota Freedom Fund made national headlines last year when Harris promoted them as a way to help bail out people charged with crimes and unrest in connection with the George Floyd protests.

George Howard was charged with two counts of second degree murder following a road rage incident last month.

Howard was out of jail on an $11,500 bond, paid for by the Minnesota Freedom Fund.

Putting Criminals Back Out On The Streets?

Multiple outlets report that the Minnesota Freedom Fund acknowledged that they did bail Howard out of jail in August in a statement that they later deleted.

“We are aware of reports of the tragic and fatal shooting in Minneapolis earlier this week allegedly involving George Howard, an individual the Minnesota Freedom Fund had previously provided with bail support. MFF believes that every individual who has been arrested by the law enforcement is innocent until proven guilty, and if a judge deems them eligible for bail, they should not have to wait in jail simply because they don’t have the same income or access to resources as others.”

Also deleted was the following statement: “Under new leadership, MFF has implemented changes to its policies and procedures, and we will continue to assess them to ensure that we are being responsive to the safety and needs of our community.”

The nonprofit group, founded in 2016, banked a massive windfall last year of roughly $35 million in the wake of the death of George Floyd and promotion from figures like Harris.

The Minnesota Freedom Fund became more well known after the death last May of George Floyd.

At its founding, the group was mainly focused on bailing out local inmates with low bail amounts.

Others Bailed Out By MFF Have Been Violent Criminals

George Howard is not the first client of the Minnesota Freedom Fund who has been bailed out and gone on to commit more violent crimes.

In February of this year, Thomas Moseley, who had been bailed out twice by MFF, was charged in three felonies, all while under investigation for a possible gun crime. He had previously been arrested for damaging a police precinct, and had participated in a riot while carrying a knife.

Minnesota Freedom Fund had also bailed out several men accused of sex crimes. One, a father accused of molesting his 15 year old daughter, and another man accused of sexually assaulting his 16-year old niece.
