UFC 264: Ryan Hall is the fighter to watch
Conor McGregor has sent a warning message to Dustin Poirier.
Long time fans of the sport have watched Conor McGregor’s verbal onslaughts throughout his rise to superstardom. From his mental warfare clinic against Jose Aldo to his deep-rooted hatred on display towards Khabib Nurmagomedov, he has cemented himself as one of, if not the best trash-talker in the history of the business. However, the former two-division champion has taken a much more tranquil, placid approach in his past two outings. Gone were the days of the viral one-liners and snappy comebacks, until today.
The 19 second clip of McGregor’s voice will surely take fans back to the good ole days, McGregor’s era of invincibility during his rise through the featherweight division.
Reminiscent of the pairs first clash back in 2014, the “peahead, hillbilly” insults have made a return. In an interview leading to their second clash at UFC 257 in January, Poirier admitted that he let McGregor rustle his feathers, which in turn played a pivotal role on the night of the fight.
Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier settle the trilogy on Saturday
In the wake of a respectful clash in January, tensions have been gradually building between the pair. In a series of Twitter altercations, hostility seems to be ripe once again as we count the days to the rubber match.
Fans have been clambering for McGregor’s return to his iconic self. With his mental warfare undoubtedly playing a huge role in some of his most iconic victories, it will be interesting to see how Poirier deals with it. A July 8 press conference may answer our questions, at least partially, but we will have to wait until Saturday night to truly see who’s mental game will reign supreme.
UFC 264 takes place on July 10, 2021, live from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV. Follow along with FanSided who is cageside for all your live news and highlights.
