Derrick Lewis throwing his cup in the crowd is FanSided MMA’s Funniest Moment of the Year
The FanSided 2021 year-end award for best UFC analyst goes to Laura Sanko for her history-making appearances on the broadcast team.
2021 is in the books and the UFC had a very successful year. There were many names that could have stood out as people who made the year a success both inside the Octagon and out. One person who had a groundbreaking year outside the cage (but right next to it) was Laura Sanko. Her achievements as a broadcaster in the UFC have secured her the FanSided 2021 year-end award for the analyst of the year.
Sanko made history this year as the first woman to serve as a color commentator for the UFC in the Zuffa era. Sanko brought her knowledge of MMA and her broadcast skills to the Dana White Contender Series analyst team. She joined former UFC fighter Paul Felder and fellow commentator Dan Hellie cage-side for the duration of the Tuesday night events. She not only was on color commentary for the events, but she also did the in-cage interviews.
Laura Sanko made UFC history in 2021
Sanko got her start as an amateur fighter herself, however after a short fight career took her talents over to the mic. She has mentioned that she stopped her MMA career to take care of her young son, but never lost interest in the sport. She worked her way up to the desk with her passion for mixed martial arts showing along the way. Since her first appearance at UFC events, Sanko has become a fan favorite and also a favorite of Dana White. Perhaps she will find her way to Fight Night events in the new year.
The annual FanSided MMA Awards are voted on by the FanSided MMA team each year. Please stay tuned for more awards announced throughout the day.
