Gunners put in offer for USA keeper Matt Turner

Another USA standout could be making his way to the English Premier League, as Arsenal is eyeing goalie Matt Turner before the transfer deadline.

The USA already has one goalkeeper in the Premier League with Zack Steffen suiting up for Manchester City. With that said, could Steffen be joined by another guy between the posts here soon? If you ask Arsenal, they want that to be the case.

According to ESPN’s James Olley and Jeffrey Carlisle, the Gunners have put in an offer to try and land goalie Matt Turner during the January transfer window. Will a deal end up getting completed ahead of the deadline?

Arsenal offer for Matt Turner has come in from out of nowhere

Turner is currently under contract with the New England Revolution, but he’s been receiving plenty of interest from clubs. Having said that, it didn’t look like he was on Arsenal’s radar, but the EPL side clearly likes the idea of him making his way to the Emirates Stadium.

This also brings up questions about Bernd Leno’s future with the club. Leno is currently the backup for Aaron Ramsdale, but he hasn’t been able to see much action this season. The expectation is that Leno could be leaving north London sooner than later to try and get more playing time.

This of course would mean that Arsenal would need another keeper to push Ramsdale for that starting spot. Enter Turner? According to Olley and Carlisle’s sources, the offer Arsenal put on the table is similar to what Man City provided for Steffen back in 2019, which was in the neighborhood of $7.5 million.

Will that number be enough for the Revolution to accept? With the transfer deadline coming on Jan. 31, New England has some time to think things over. We very well could end up seeing another American crossing the pond here.
