If you’ve been thinking about a trip to Miami, next year might be the time to do it. Formula One has announced that the sport will be racing in Miami, after confirming a 10-year deal with the city to host the Miami Grand Prix, beginning in the second quarter of 2022.
The race has been much anticipated, with initial plans to host the race in Miami first put forward back in 2019, however due to various roadblocks the deal has only this year been agreed upon. The deal now includes a $5 million support programme for local businesses and the community, including a STEM education programme for local schools. The race will take place around the Hard Rock Stadium, home of football team the Miami Dolphins. The track is 3.36 miles / 5.4km, and cars can be expected to hit top speeds of around 198mph.
This is an excellent opportunity for luxury yacht charters and owners to visit Miami and soak up the atmosphere of the event! Miami is a wonderful charter destination, with sensational nightlife, countless luxury stores and spas, incredible beaches, and excellent water sports for the more adventurous. An exact date of the new 2022 Miami Grand Prix is yet to be announced, but it will be held in the second quarter of 2022, ahead of the August summer break.
“We are thrilled to announce that Formula One will be racing in Miami beginning in 2022,” F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali said. “We will be working closely with the team from Hard Rock Stadium and the FIA to ensure the circuit delivers sensational racing but also leaves a positive and lasting contribution for the people in the local community.”
