In spite of some near finishes by Andre Fili, an eye poke ultimately ends his UFC Vegas 30 fight with Daniel Pineda as a no contest
Andre Fili put on a spectacular performance at UFC Vegas 30, stunning Daniel Pineda multiple times and nearly scoring a win. An accidental foul in the second round, however, means the fight result is a disappointing no-contest.
Fili clipped Pineda early with a pair of left hands, forcing him to re-find his footing. Pineda tried to pin Fili against the cage, but Fili would drop him soon after with a right hand. Pineda would recover, and in spite of a stuffed takedown attempt, pinned Fili against the cage again.
Andre Fili rocks Daniel Pineda, but eye poke ends the fight without a winner
Fili, however, rocked Pineda badly with a left hand and pair of high kicks late in the round before dropping Pineda with a body kick and swarming him.
Pineda made it into the second round and kept pressing forward, but an accidental eye poke from Fili halted everything.
Pineda made repeated attempts that he could see, but the cage-side physician didn’t buy his claim, and referee Herb Dean waved the fight off.
As not enough time expired in the second round, the fight was ultimately declared a no-contest.
