Eagles lock up Josh Sweat to monster 3-year contract extension

The Philadelphia Eagles locked up star defensive lineman Josh Sweat to a three-year deal, and he won’t have to worry about his bank account for quite some time.

Sweat was due to make under $1 million this coming season — obviously not poor in terms of the common folk, but compared to most NFL players his caliber, he deserved a raise.

And he got one, on a Saturday, as has become the trend for the Eagles of late.

Philly signed tackle Jordan Mailata last weekend to another huge contract. Now, it was Sweat’s turn.

Sweat’s new deal will pay him $40 million over three seasons. It includes a $10 million signing bonus, upping his 2021 salary considerably.

Philadelphia Eagles: Josh Sweat a valuable asset to defensive line

The Florida State product is in his fourth year in the NFL, and has proven Howie Roseman smart for selecting him in the first place. Sweat and Mailata were in the same 2018 draft class. He’s appeared in 40 career games and registered 66 tackles and 10 sacks.

Sweat fell to the Eagles in 2018 due to concerns about a knee injury he suffered while at Florida State. He’s shaken off those issues and then some at the professional level.

Sweat’s agent deserves a raise, as well, for getting him $26.92 million guaranteed in said contract, as well.

We’ll see who gets signed next Saturday.
