Ciryl Gane eyes Jon Jones fight after UFC 270.
UFC interim heavyweight champion Ciryl Gane is focused on defeating Francis Ngannou but is already focusing on a heavyweight brawl with Jon Jones next.
After winning the interim title against Derrick Lewis at UFC 265, Gane finds himself on the biggest stage of his career at UFC 270. He faces his former MMA Factory teammate Ngannou in arguably the biggest fight in UFC heavyweight history.
But Gane knows that Jones is waiting in the wings for the winner of the heavyweight matchup. During his UFC 270 pre-fight press conference, Gane explained why Jones makes sense for him next with a win.
“This will be a pleasure if I win [at UFC 270] against Francis, yes I want to fight against Jon Jones,” Gane said.
“A lot of people talk about that already because we are maybe the more well-rounded guys in this division and a lot of people talk about a technical fight. It will probably be a good matchup. Yes, if it’s possible, we’re going to do this.”
Jon Jones could face Ciryl Gane for his heavyweight debut
Jones has been sidelined since early 2020 when he defeated Dominick Reyes at UFC 247 before vacating the title. He’s been at odds with the UFC brass over a contract dispute, along with a lengthy physical rebuilding process to move up to heavyweight.
Gane is arguably one of the most unique heavyweights in UFC history, with the speed of a welterweight and power of a heavyweight. He also has technical kickboxing that has overwhelmed his opposition.
UFC president Dana White has already hinted that Jones will get the winner of Ngannou/Gane next. A Gane vs. Jones fight would be fascinating from a style perspective for Jones’ first taste of the heavyweight division.
First thing’s first for Gane as he looks to achieve a championship dream just 10 fights into his MMA career.
