The first shots of Yoel Romero as a Bellator MMA fighter are in.
One of the biggest storylines for Bellator MMA heading into the start of its 2021 schedule is the anticipated promotional debut of Yoel Romero.
But the promotion gave a teeny sneak peek of what fans can expect, revealing photos of him sporting the promotion’s gloves in Romero’s first Bellator photoshoot.

In December 2020, news broke that Romero and the UFC had parting ways in what was perhaps the biggest shocker of a release for that year. Romero was just coming off an unsuccessful, and highly disappointing, middleweight title fight with UFC champ Israel Adesanya at UFC 248.
While Romero didn’t win the gold, he was still considered a legitimate talent that could still have an exciting fight in the cage, along with the prospect that he could move up to light heavyweight — which he will be doing for this run in Bellator.
“The Soldier of God” won eight straight fights upon his arrival in the UFC’s middleweight division, scoring wins over the likes of Lyoto Machida, Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza and Chris Weidman. Romero met Robert Whittaker in an interim title fight at UFC 213, losing by decision.
Romero would finish Luke Rockhold in another interim title fight at UFC 221 but didn’t win the title due to missing weight. Romero cost himself a middleweight title shot at UFC 225 due to losing the battle of the scales, but he and Whittaker put on a heck of a rematch, with Romero narrowly losing in a controversial decision.
Between the losses to Whittaker and Adesanya, Romero also controversially dropped a decision to Paulo Costa in what was the UFC 241 Fight of the Night.
Romero doesn’t have a first Bellator fight lined up as of yet.
