Caio Borralho wrestles victory from Armen Petrosyan

UFC Vegas 58: Caio Borralho defeated Armen Petrosyan.

Caio Borralho defeated Armen Petrosyan via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28), at UFC Vegas 58 on Saturday, July 9, 2022, live from the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, NV.

“Armen is a killer… I’m not dumb… I calculated the best thing to do was take him to the ground… I said I wanted a ranked guy, I want Dricus du Plessis… I’ll be ranked after I beat your ass,” said Borralho, who is unbeaten in his last 12 fights.

The fighters touched gloves to get underway. Petrosyan opened with a strong leg kick but Borralho responded with a head kick and a combination. Borralho exploded on a takedown attempt, easily getting Petrosyan to the ground. Borralho took the back and tried to take the arm but gave up and got his hooks in. The Brazilian attempted to get a rear-naked choke but Petrosyan did a strong job defending. Borralho controlled the entire first round with the majority of it spent on the ground.

Petrosyan landed a strong hook and a leg kick. One minute into the second round, Borralho tackled Petrosyan to the ground. Borralho transitioned to mount and attempted a guillotine choke. Petrosyan was able to slip his neck out and then landed a leg kick. Petrosyan opted to let Borralho stand up. The decision was wise as Petrosyan landed a powerful jab. Borralho, knowing he had a massive edge in grappling, easily took Petrosyan down for the third time in the fight. Borralho again took Petrosyan’s back but was unable to generate much offense.

Petrosyan pushed the action opening the third round, knowing he lost the first two rounds. Petrosyan had an edge while on the feet, winning most of the striking exchanging. Borralho went for another takedown but went in a little high, allowing Petrosyan to defend the takedown and engage in the clinch. Referee Mike Beltran warned the fighters to pick up the action. Borralho slipped on a takedown attempt, allowing Petrosyan to kick Borralho’s legs. Beltran eventually stood the fighters up. Borralho landed another takedown on the second effort. However, Petrosyan was able to return to his feet following a takedown for the first time in the fight. The two fighters engaged in a clinch against the fence. Beltran briefly stopped the fight but it was immediately restarted. Borralho broke away from the clinch. Petrosyan attempted a flying knee right before the bell but missed.
