Browns place rookie LB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah on COVID list

Cleveland Browns rookie linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah has been placed on the COVID list ahead of camp.

Some adversity has arrived for the Cleveland Browns right before training camp is set to begin for the AFC North team. On Sunday afternoon, the team announced that rookie second-round pick Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah has been placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

It’s unclear if the linebacker has tested positive or come in close contact of someone who has the virus. Nevertheless, Owusu-Koramoah is away from his teammates right now and will need to isolate until he’s cleared.

Second-round pick Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah has officially been placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list

Out of Notre Dame, Owusu-Koramoah was thought to be a first-round selection in the 2021 NFL Draft. However, a heart condition was revealed ahead of the draft, which caused some concern among teams.

The Browns traded up in the second round, though, and used the No. 52 overall pick to grab him. Owusu-Koramoah was nothing short of brilliant while playing for the Fighting Irish and now he’s expected to compete for a starting job with Cleveland in his first year in town.

Before that can happen, Owusu-Koramoah will have to go through the protocols so that he can get himself back on the field. He’s got high expectations for himself this season and the coaches have the same for him.

Owusu-Koramoah is used to having to overcome things, and this is no different. For the Browns, the hope is this is an isolated incident and no other players will be forced to go on the Reserve/COVID-19 list in addition to Owusu-Koramoah. Cleveland surprised many people last year by beating the Steelers in the AFC Wild Card Round and nearly stunning Kansas City in the Divisional Round. We’ll see what’s in store for them this fall and winter.
