Three blockbuster trilogies that are better than Dustin Poirier vs Conor McGregor 3.
With UFC 264 just around the corner, social media feeds are ripe with news and predictions regarding the highly anticipated main event, Dustin Poirier vs. Conor McGregor. As the pair prepare to clash for a third time on Saturday, we look at three trilogies that are surely better than the UFC’s latest offering. After all, the fights are usually over in a flash. Order in a pizza, get comfortable and lose yourself in these blockbuster trilogies.
The John Wick Trilogy
If you’re looking for something that’ll surely scratch your martial arts itch, the John Wick trilogy will not let you down. Following a retired assassin on a mission for revenge (original, right?), Keanu Reeves wreaks havoc throughout as he flips, prances and shoots his way towards inner peace. Director Chad Stahelski describes the combat used as “gun-fu, a combination of Japanese Jiu-jitsu, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and standing Judo.” Reeves is a legitimate Judo black-belt, and it’s undeniably fun to see him implement the techniques in the most ridiculous ways. Leave your thinking-brain at the door for these movies, sit back and enjoy the mindless fun that has made the trilogy a phenomenon in recent years. Oh, and bonus points if you can guess the kill count once the credits roll ( to the nearest 100…)
The Hangover Trilogy
Commencing in Las Vegas (under drastically different circumstances than UFC 264), The Hangover trilogy has become something of a national treasure. Following three friends searching for a missing companion after a messy night out, director Todd Phillips creates a beautiful mixture of top-notch comedy and fantastic characterization, with Zac Galifianakis stealing the show at every turn. With combat few-and-far between, it does feature one Mike Tyson punch that is sure to be harder than any thrown at the T-mobile this weekend. McGregor will surely disagree, but you can decide for yourself! Widely regarded as one of the best comedy trilogies ever made, a Hangover movie-marathon offers the perfect stress-free escape.
The Hunger Games Trilogy (time to get your nerd on, we’re talking books!)
A major time investment, no doubt, but one that is definitely worth your time. Hit the kettle switch, sink into your favorite chair and get lost in the world of The Hunger Games. Suzanne Collins tells the story of a teenage Katniss Everdeen as she is submerged into a game-show type arena, where only one contestant leaves alive. The concept alone has inspired countless books, movies and games that have been prominent in recent years (ever hear of Fortnite? Of course you have). Set in a fantastically weird and intriguing dystopian future, the story will have you rooting for Katniss on her journey from nobody to somebody. Love, heartbreak, drama, action, the trilogy of books has got it all covered. Suitable for both teenagers and adults alike, you’ll be calling for a sequel as soon as you flip the final page. The movies are also fantastic, but you know what they say: the books are always better!
