3 trades Cowboys must make to be legit Super Bowl contenders

The Dallas Cowboys are riding a five game winning streak coming off their bye and into the NFL’s trade deadline. They would be wise to fortify some holes with smart trades.

Expectations in Dallas are always high. They sky rocket when things go well. That is what is currently occurring for the 2021 Cowboys. There is a MVP candidate at quarterback, a pair of running backs on pace for over 1000 yards and a pair of wide receivers that may be the league’s best duo. Pair that offensive firepower with a defensive unit that is top five in takeaways and you can understand why Dallas’ eye is on more than just a playoff birth.

Already owning a big lead in what looks like a weak NFC East, the Cowboys need to stay aggressive as the NFL’s trade deadline approaches. If they want to stay on top of the conference, not just the division, these are three trades that make sense.

The Cowboys should consider these three trades

3. Michael Gallup for Donte Jackson

After losing No. 2 wide receiver Curtis Samuel to the Washington Football Team, Carolina has been searching for a reliable target next to D.J. Moore. Robbie Anderson’s disappointing season after a new deal hurts long term. However the Panthers have some financial flexbility that may allow them to get a long-term deal done with Michael Gallup if he flourishes as the number two on that offense.

Gallup is on the last year of his rookie deal. With a major investment financially to Amari Cooper and in draft capital on CeeDee Lamb, Gallup looks to be getting the short end of the stick. It would be highly unlikely for Dallas to retain him after this season. ervices.

Meanwhile Donte Jackson is a former second round pick that is also in the last year of his rookie deal. He’s also stuck behind a highly drafted young player (two if you count C.J. Henderson with Jaycee Horn) and an expensive acquisition (Stephon Gilmore).

Dallas could use another corner opposite Trevon Diggs. Anthony Brown has played well but has shown lapses this season and for his career. Betting on someone as talented as Jackson in a scheme where his speed would allow him to flourish seems wise for Dallas.
