Carson Wentz could be on the move from the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason.

After five years in the City of Brotherly Love, quarterback Carson Wentz has fallen out of favor with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Wentz has not been the same player since tearing his ACL during his near-MVP season in 2017. Philadelphia went on to win Super Bowl 52 that February with his backup Nick Foles leading the Eagles to the promised land. Even with new head coach Nick Sirianni coming in to replace Doug Pederson, there is a chance Wentz has played his last snap for the team that drafted him No. 2.

This is how the Evil Empire gets a second life after 20 years of dominance

There is a chance Wentz could join the team his Eagles beat in Super Bowl 52 two years ago. Yes, the New England Patriots are very much in play to trade for him. While they could roll with Cam Newton as their starting quarterback for another season, he did not show enough that he can lead a so-so offensive rosters to the playoffs. Trading for Wentz could be a long-term upgrade here.

The idea is Wentz is still in his 20s with at least a decade left of high-quality ball in the tank. Trading for him would be a means for the Patriots to reset in an attempt to keep their fleeting dynasty alive. New England is clearly the loser in the Tom Brady divorce, as its former starting quarterback is leading the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to the Super Bowl in his age-43 season.

Wentz has shown he can quarterback a not-so-stellar offensive roster to postseason berths. While no team in the NFC East is as menacing as the Buffalo Bills are in the AFC East, the Patriots would no longer be operating at a relative quarterbacking disadvantage. The curious part in all of this is if Wentz can buy into The Patriot Way or be a fit in Josh McDaniels’ offensive system.

What is an advantage for the Patriots over other teams who could be in the market to trade for Wentz is that he plays in the opposite conference. Trading Wentz to another NFC team could totally blow up in the Eagles’ face if it turns out they were the problem in all of this. However, there are two better suitors for him than the Patriots. They are a distant third to possibly land him.
