The Los Angeles Angels fired Joe Maddon and these three could be in line to replace him.

A dozen straight losses for the Los Angeles Angels after such a promising start to the season led to the team firing Joe Maddon. Maddon leaves the Angels with a lifetime record of 1382-1216. Two losing seasons with the Angels followed by this bad turn were enough to move on from him.

Phil Nevin will take over in the interim for the Angels as their skipper. However, when the season ends, the Angels will be out there looking for long-term replacements.

Maddon’s predecessor Brad Ausmus only had one year on the job after Mike Scioscia’s 19 with the Angels. Will the team look to hire another experienced manager for the job or give the gig to a first-timer? The free agent class of managers and coaches on other teams will provide them with a plethora of options including these three they should already have their eyes on.

LA Angels fire Joe Maddon: Bruce Bochy has the World Series pedigree to replace him

Bruce Bochy would fit into the same category as Buck Showalter and Dusty Baker with one exception: he has won a World Series. In fact, he has three of them.

Bochy managed the San Diego Padres from 1995-2006 then moved up the California Coast to manage the San Francisco Giants from 2007-2019. His record as a manager eventually fell below .500—a fact that doesn’t really matter much if the Angels are simply looking for a guy with experience.

Nobody has much more of it than Bochy with 25 years as a manager in Major League Baseball. Given how successful the New York Mets have been with Showalter coming back into the game and the Houston Astros succeeding with Dusty Baker’s return to field general, a phone call to Bochy is a must.

He has already managed two California clubs. Why not go for three? Mike Trout can help make it easy.
