3 Heat trades that make too much sense not to happen

The Miami Heat can head back into contention for the NBA title next season if they were to consider trading for one of these three players.

The Miami Heat found out at the worst possible time that what took place in the Orlando, Fla. bubble last season was not sustainable. The team was content with the build of the roster, believing that they could make another run to the NBA Finals this year. That was far from the case, as the team was swept convincingly by the Milwaukee Bucks in the first-round.

Now, the Heat enter an important offseason to try and figure out what it is they can do to be convincing contenders heading in the Eastern Conference. If they want to do so, here are potential trades they need to make if they want that to become a reality next season.

3. C.J. McCollum, SG

The Portland Trail Blazers are coming off yet another season where they were handed an early exit in the playoffs. After losing in six games to the Denver Nuggets in the first-round, the team decided to part ways with head coach Terry Stotts. One name that has frequently been placed in trade rumors not named Damian Lillard is C.J. McCollum.

If that is the case, the Heat should be calling.

McCollum is coming off a strong season with the Trail Blazers, where he averaged career-highs in points (23.1) and assists (4.7), while shooting 45.8-percent from the field and 40.2-percent from the three-point line through 47 regular-season games. While his play did fall flat in the playoffs, he would be a welcome asset in Miami.

The Heat were dreadful through their limited four-game stint in the 2021 edition of the playoffs, as they shot a league-low 39.5-percent from the field and just 98.0 points (third-fewest among playoff teams). The Tyler Herro experiment appears to be over, as the team is reportedly highly likely to trade him elsewhere. McCollum would be a solid upgrade for the Heat and be the perfect shooter to pair alongside Jimmy Butler.
