3 former players we need to come back to New York

The New York Mets are going all in with a new owner. Steve Cohen might want to bring back a couple of former Mets now that the team expects to be competitive.

The New York Mets offseason has been headline stealing, to say the least. This is Steve Cohen’s first season as majority owner, and he wasted little time using his fortune to build a contender in Queens. They made some splashy moves that got the fans excited, like trading for Francisco Lindor and Carlos Carasco and signing James McCann. Some headlines weren’t so great for the Mets. However, when it comes to the on-the-field product, the Mets are much better.

However, it’s rumored they might not be done. The Mets still have an interest in starting pitcher Trevor Bauer. They could even look to reunite with a former Mets’ player to bolster this roster.

The Mets have been wheeling and dealing for a long time. That means they’ve taken a lot of chances with prospects. They’ve gotten lucky most times. Looking back at the careers of the four prospects they traded for Johan Santana in 2008, only Carlos Gomez turned into anything. However, not all those trades work out in the Mets’ favor. The fairly recent deal for Robinson Cano and Edwin Diaz has “disaster” written all over it.

Still, there are some former Mets the team can bring back to the Big Apple this season.
